Activities
Take advantage of a wide variety of activities, and leave the planning to us! Participants are encouraged to let staff know what types of activities they’d like to see added to our club. Many activities are free, while most outings include a fee. For specifics on the activities available at the 5-5-1 Club & Café, refer to our bi-monthly opportunities booklet, March & April 2012. Subscribe to our mailing list to receive the booklet each month.
Play
Socialize with others through a game of cards, bingo, billiards, board games, or bridge. Check the newsletter to see which games require reservations.
Eat
Life is more fun with good food and conversation! Click here to see the variety of dining opportunities at the 5-5-1 Club & Café. Van transportation to lunch at the club is available on Tuesdays and Fridays. There is a $2 suggested donation for round-trip transportation. Call (651) 632-5332.
Relax
Come on over, put your feet up, and watch TV or movies, read the newspaper, or read a book. Leisurely put a puzzle together, or surf the web.
Learn
Learning is the spice of life! No matter what our age may be, it’s important to keep learning new things so that our brains stay stimulated. Here’s a sampling of some of our educational opportunities:
- Wellness Presentations: (brief health talks on things like hearing and vision loss, arthritis, stroke, fitness, Alzheimer's, etc.)
- Defensive Driving Classes
- Caregiver Education & Caregivers Support Group
- Cooking Classes
- Workshops (i.e. advance life care planning, housing options, caregiver education and resources)
- Annual Wellness Conference (coordinated by Lyngblomsten Community Wellness)
- Learn for Life! Periodic presentations on a variety of topics ranging from classic literature to arts to travel and more.
- Computer Lab & Tutor
- Explore resources in the community for maintaining your independence or getting help when you need it; visit with our community resource person.
Go Places
Take a break from your routine, get out of the house, and see some new sites! We have outings every month and extended travel opportunities once or twice a year. Outings include theatres, museums, garage sales, orchards, flower gardens, wineries, animal exhibits, and more. There is truly something for everyone! Extended trips include places like the North Shore, Chicago, and Branson. Don’t sit home alone because you don’t have anyone to accompany you on outings . . . there are others just like you who like to get out and make it happen by participating at the 5-5-1 Club & Café.
Van transportation to lunch at the club is available on Tuesdays and Fridays. There is a $2 suggested donation for round-trip transportation. Call (651) 632-5330.
Get Fit
It’s easier to have fun when you’re feeling well. Keep active with games on the Wii or participate in our weekly Walking Club (year-round) or occasional Friday Nite Hikes (summer). You can participate—no matter how far you are able to walk. It’s not just great walking; it’s also a time of great laughter!
Monitor Your Health
Visit with our registered nurse during her weekly office hours (Tuesdays from 1:30 – 3:30 PM, just down the hall from the 5-5-1 Club & Café). She can answer health-related questions, take your blood pressure and do blood sugar screenings. You also have access to a free Medical Equipment Lending Library. These FREE services are offered by Lyngblomsten Community Wellness & Education.
Make a Difference
Helping others is a good way to promote a healthy and fun lifestyle. A few ways you can make a difference through involvement with the 5-5-1 Club & Café include:
Stitch 'N Chat
Tuesdays, 9 – 11:00 AM. Do you like to do crafts and help others in the process? Everyone is welcome (including men!), whether you bring a project or not. Just come; no reservations needed.
Volunteer
The 5-5-1 Club & Café depends on volunteers to operate. We need people to drive the van, cashier and wait tables in the café, assemble the newsletter, play music, and lead groups. If you’re interested in volunteering, please contact Geri Rutz at (651) 632-5320 or gmrutz@lyngblomsten.org.
Looking for more ways to make a difference?
Check out the “Get Involved” section on the Lyngblomsten web site.
The 5-5-1 Club & Café is financially supported through gifts given to the Lyngblomsten Foundation. Any financial contributions you can give would be greatly appreciated. Sponsorship opportunities may also be available.
In big ways or small ways, EVERYONE can make a difference!
